Cute Fabric Keychain .:. a tutorial

I had some 1" d-rings and decided I might make a few key chains or key fobs with them and to use up some scraps.

You will need:

one 1" D-ring
1.5" x 7"  strip of your main fabric
1.5" x 7" strip of coordinating fabric
1.5" x 7" piece of Pellon Decor Bond
2" piece of 1/4"-1/2" wide ribbon

Following the directions, iron the Decor Bond to the wrong side of your main fabric piece.

Fold this piece in half matching long ends and starting from the fold cut off the corner of your pieces. When you open your fabric you will have a pointed end.

Use this as a template to cut the coordinating fabric.

Layer your two pieces, right sides together with the ribbon strip wrong side facing the main fabric 2" up from the flat end of your key chain. Pin in place.

Sew around your key chain using a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a 1.5" opening on one long side for turning.

Clip your corners and trim close to your seam. Turn right side out. Iron. Hand stitch your opening closed.

Top stitch the edges around your key chain starting and stopping at the ribbon. DO NOT stitch over your ribbon.

Slide your fabric key chain through the D-ring and tuck the pointed end under your ribbon.

Top stitch using a zipper foot just under the D-ring to secure, making sure you back stitch at the beginning and end.

There you have it! A simple, quick and pretty key chain.
